Connaught Tennis Squash & Bowls Club
Sporting Club in London
The Connaught Club is located in a pretty position deep in the middle of Epping Forest on the borders of Essex and the borough of Waltham Forest. Historical research has shown that the original courts belonged to The Royal Forest Hotel and The Connaught was set up as an independent club in 1885. The club has gone through a number of changes over its 123 year history. It was originally formed as The Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. In 1910 the Bowls Section was introduced with the laying of a bowls green in place of a concrete tennis court. In 1939 the croquet section was disbanded and in 1970 the club responded to the boom in the game of squash by starting the Squash Section.
